Social Media and Custom Tissue – A Strange Marriage

The emergence of social media as a leading advertising platform coupled with premium packaging doesn’t immediately strike one as an obvious pair. But creating a custom packaged experience that lends itself well to being photographed creates an opportunity for consumers to share something that’s genuine to a receptive social media audience.

The more well presented the product, the higher the likelihood that the customer will post or share the product in an affirming fashion. In a Dotcom packaging study, it is estimated that nearly 4 in 10 consumers would share an image of a delivery if it came or arrived in premium packaging, and the growing popularity of “unboxing” videos made by buyers displaying their new purchased product supports this. It’s a simple concept, but is surprisingly under utilized!

For modern day brands, this level of organic marketing is one of the best ways to attract new customers. When customers are motivated to discuss a brand with others without being prompted by the brand, it’s more effective as the conversations are genuine and organic, rather than unconvincing and forced. It does not pay to be naive or underestimate the impact that social media has on converting customers to your product, nor is it helpful to waste time on paid endorsements that convince absolutely no one.

Too many companies rely on product placement and endorsements instead of curating a product that can sell itself, but that’s easily avoidable with a little effort and creativity! The singular point being made here, somewhat repetitively, is that packaging your product well leads to customer satisfaction, and translates easily into an aesthetically pleasant experience they can share online.

The more well presented the product, the higher the likelihood that the customer will post or share the product in an affirming fashion. In a Dotcom packaging study, it was estimated that nearly 4 in 10 consumers would share an image of a delivery if it arrived in premium packaging, which means the more effort put into the presentation, the more you benefit.

This is a perfect example of the branding experience extending far beyond the product itself, and the resulting positive repercussions in the online sphere. The online validation and recommendations foster a sense of loyalty from customers and furthers the brand reputation, both online and in the real world. And it doesn’t hurt that custom tissue can provide a perfect surface to take a good photo on, as seen here, here and here. This is just one more factor in your favor!

The online sphere is image based; a carefully curated insight into someone’s life, and dressing a product well means the consumer effectively does your marketing for you.  It also just happens that custom tissue can provide a perfect branded background and/or surface to take a good photo on!
