It’s without question that Gentle Monster has elevated retail and the shopping experience to a whole new level, and it’s at home base Seoul where some of the eyewear brand’s best retail designs can be found. The latest fantastical shop design has recently been revealed at the shopping centre of Lotte World Tower, a prestigious mixed-use complex alongside the Han River. The store occupies a sizeable unit on the ground floor, situated strategically close to AvenueL, the section where all luxury brands have set up shop. As always, a design theme has been picked for the retail space, and here, it’s Digital Alchemy. By audaciously re-contextualising alchemy from a contemporary point of view, the setting is once again rife with metaphors such as metal and non-metal, chemistry and human desire. All are captured by intricately designed settings, interspersed with merchandise displays, and anchored by a large-scale kinetic installation with integrated video artwork referencing human emotions and the rapid advancement of digital tech. The new Gentle Monster store carries the brand’s full range of coveted sunglasses, optical eyewear and collaborative collections.
