L’Avenue at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City

L’Avenue is one of the most exclusive and memorable restaurants in Paris, and it occupies a prime site on the Avenue Montaigne in the ‘golden triangle’ shopping district right opposite the haute couture HQ of Christian Dior. Now, its new location in the capital of the world is at 5th avenue, one of the most important streets in New York. It’s no surprise that this location is in the heart of the city, no another than Saks Fifth Avenue.

Fashion and good food always is a perfect match, and we know that this formula is a great business idea. The BG restaurant designed by Kelly Wearstler and Palette Café in Bergdorf Goodman, Fred’s Restaurant at Barneys and the stunning Blue Box Café at Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue, are just a few examples, that after a hard day of shopping, there is nothing better than drink a good cocktail and grab a nice salad inside the most luxurious stores in NYC.

Before the New York Fashion Week stars, L’Avenue at Saks is scheduled to open on Monday on the eighth and ninth floors of the famous department in front of the Rockefeller Center. Last week, they launched the restaurant with a dinner for all the important fashion community in the city, including Marc Metrick, Jessica Chastain, Joseph Altuzarra, Wes Gordon of Carolina Herrera, Kim Jones of Dior Men, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim from Oscar de la Renta, Olivia Palermo, Selby Drummond, the former Vogue editor, Grace Elizabeth and Joan Smalls.

Designed by Philippe Starck, the eighth floor (which used to be the Café SFA) has been transformed into Le Chalet, a bar modeled on a resort from the alps, a stone wall and a scattering of mismatched faded floral couches are part of the decor. There’s a kind of reading room with old china cups hanging from the eaves, and a balcony that will be open in the summer with views over Rockefeller Plaza.

The reservations are available starting February 4th and the restaurant opens with the regular schedule of the store and closes at 8:30 pm.

Not only is L’Avenue the newest addition to Saks. Saks Fifth Avenue will debut the new main floor of its flagship New York City store this week, marking a major milestone in its $250 million renovation project.

Handbags will be the most prominent items at Saks, which has added 15 more fashion labels to its accessories lineup, including Celine, Bottega Veneta and The Row. The remodeled main floor is about 53,000 square feet—about the size of a Whole Foods—and will be staffed by 50 handbag style advisors in addition to the store associates that sell each brand. On the ground floor, the design centerpiece is an escalator equipped with LED art.
