Announcing “A Moment With the Met”—in Celebration of the First Monday in May

Historically, the first Monday in May has marked an iconic night for fashion and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met gala has long been dedicated to raising funds for the Met’s Costume Institute, and this year, you’re invited to join Vogue in a celebration of Met galas past on Monday, May 4.

Throughout the day, Vogue will look back at highlights from previous years, from breathtaking red-carpet ensembles to memorable moments. The day will conclude with “A Moment With the Met”—an intimate celebration, available via livestream exclusively on YouTube. “A Moment With the Met” will begin at 6 p.m. EDT on May 4, featuring an address by Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, a special live performance by Florence and the Machine, and a DJ set from Virgil Abloh. State Farm is the exclusive sponsor of “A Moment With the Met.”

“It would be impossible to recreate the gala on Monday evening, though I have loved hearing how so many are marking the occasion in their own ways,” says Wintour of the day’s programming. “So instead, I asked a few friends to join me for a simple moment—one that I hope will bring us all a bit of joy.”

In addition, six new videos will bring Met gala memories to life, thanks to the insight of former attendees like Naomi Campbell, Cardi B, Stella McCartney, and more. See the lineup below:

Monday, May 4

Liza Koshy’s Best Red Carpet Moments – 10 a.m.
Life in Looks: Naomi Campbell – 3 p.m.
A Moment With the Met: Livestream – 6 p.m.
Everything You Need to Know About the Met Gala – 7 p.m.

Tuesday, May 5

Met Oral History: Cardi B and Jeremy Scott – 3 p.m.
Met Oral History: Liv Tyler and Stella McCartney – 10 a.m.

To commemorate the occasion, Vogue will make a donation to both the Costume Institute and A Common Thread, and will ask viewers to consider contributing to either organization if they are able.

Because of the global health crisis, the Costume Institute’s “About Time: Fashion and Duration” exhibition has been postponed until October 29. Preview the exhibition, as captured by Hamish Bowles and Annie Leibovitz for the May issue of Vogue, here. A new date for the 2020 Met gala is yet to be finalized.
