The latest visual trends of New York City fashion window displays from May 2015.



MACY'S
The "American Icons: A celebration of the people, places, and things we love" installation features an explosion of patriotic red, white, and blue along side historical American figures like President George Washington in a 3D wooden cut-out and over 30 presidential busts made of a marbled wood finish. A map of the USA is also shown, each state a different kind of wood (pine, birch, particle board, cedar, formica, mahogany) suspended on invisible strings. Mannequins wear iconic American designers Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.

LORD AND TAYLOR
Modern Military is shown in a grey scale ripple effect backdrop. This season Marc Jacobs, BCBG, Ralph Lauren, and others dissect military uniforms resulting in an explosion of khaki patchwork, eyelet detailing, and subtle olive green digital camouflage undertones. Mannequins stand at attention in full salute.



SAKS FIFTH AVENUE
All 30 windows along Saks Fifth Ave have been dedicated to Saks Glam Gardens a floral installation of over 100,000 silk and synthetic flowers/topiaries featuring Designer fragrance and beauty products. Each window is taken over by one major brand who design their own window and bring their floral story to life. This month long Spring celebration includes products by: Burberry, Clinique, Lancome, Aerin, La Mer, Dior, Tom Ford, Viktor & Rolf, Nars, Givenchy, Chanel, Sisley, Bobbi Brown, Joe Malone London, Trish McEvoy, Keils, and Nest.

UNIQLO
The Shochiku Kabuki and UNIQLO project evolved out of a desire to share a traditional Japanese art form and present it to the world through clothing as a form of international pop culture. The Kabuki theatre originated during the Edo period in the 16th century in Japan and featured drums, dance, face painting, and ornate masks presented in a dramatic fashion. It is still popular entertainment to this day.

VALENTINO
Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pier Paolo Piccioli have collaborated with italian pop artist Giosetta Fioroni to create a romantic red heart inspired pre-fall collection. Soft fluorescent cursive lights read "Your eyes are the eyes of a woman in love" for the special edition L'Amour collection by Giosetta Fioroni.



DOLCE AND GABBANA
Entitled "La Sicilia Spagnola" the 2015 summer collection is a medieval fairytale. The island of Sicily has been romanticized with a Spaniard flair in a color palette that boasts red, black, and white. Embroidered Bolero jackets, carnation prints, stylized rosary beads, bullfighting capes, and flamenco fans remind one of high end fashion matadors.



PRADA
This window design concept by Martino Gamper in collaboration with Prada pays homage to the humble "corner shop". The design draws its inspiration from perspective, fragments and contrasts between natural materials. Wood grains on the walls and floor are angled to emphasize the perspective and make the space look tighter. Images of landscape include mountains and forests are mounted in thin vertical strips at the back of each niche, aligned parallel to the glass window in front.



LOUIS VUITTON
‘SERIES 2' continues on from the groundbreaking triptych 'SERIES 1' in this Spring Summer 2015 collection. More than a sequel, 'SERIES 2' is an echo of 'SERIES 1', the first groundbreaking campaign initiated by Nicolas Ghesquière for the Maison Louis Vuitton which recently won the British Fashion Award for best advertising campaign. The idea behind the campaign is that fashion is all about what each individual brings to it, the designer, the wearer or the artisan. Each has their own personal interpretation, each enriching the story.



CHANEL
The spring/summer 2015 collection transports us to a typical Parisian Boulevard where exuberant psychedelic splotches of water color shade everything from coat linings to boots. Tweed pants suits accessorized by vibrant neck ties interfuse masculine and feminine constructs. The whole collection is a play on proportions, layering and transparency. The collections accessories add whimsical, humorous to its message of Freedom and Feminism, clutches are stamped with messages like "Feministe mais Feminine" and "Make Fashion Not War"



DIOR
Creative director Raf Simons has created a spring/summer 2015 ready to wear collection inspired by history and the future. A play on old tradition and new, 18th century motifs and space new age. The collection manages to combine French royal court with the uniforms of pilots and astronauts under the guise of florals, frocks, and sharp lines. The round almost dome shaped window and fluorescent sunburst lighting enhance the futuristic approach mirrored in the collection.



FENDI
The famous Fendi Bag Bugs, Mini Baguettes, Limited edition Karlitos (bag charms of eccentric Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld) and handbags are being delivered via bright red chrome parachutes and displayed in a backdrop of gently floating clouds and blue skies.



BARNEYS NY
Barneys NY has teamed up with the Arts Production Fund which aims to bring art to wide audiences through public art commissions, to honor the work of 87 year old NYC portrait artist Alex Katz. The portrait mural occupies the entire Madison Ave window space and at 8x60 feet is one of the largest works of Katz's career. It features portraits of 18 women in black and white including Yvonne Force Villarreal, Doreen Remen, and Casey Fremont (all from Arts Production Fund), Ada Katz (his longtime wife and muse), and Elizabeth McAvoy. In addition to the mural, Alex Katz has created a collection of limited edition home goods, notebooks, and prints. Barneys NY will donate 25% of all retail sales from the Alex Katz collection in support of the Arts Production Fund.

BERGDORF GOODMAN
Artist and Instagram sensation Donald Robertson aka "Drawberson" is featured in this colorful celebration of fashion themed art. Fun, vibrant, and playful homages to major designers abound using everyday objects and recycled materials. According to Donald Robertson himself: “My new installation I just finished in both the Men’s and Women’s windows is entitled #donaldartbombsbergdorfs. It is an homage to Bergdorf’s own (Windows Creative Director) David Hoey. I totally knocked off his over the top “cram slam style”. The only difference is I used my recycling – I live in Suburbia with my wife and five kids, and we make a lot of garbage! I had warned (Creative Director of BG) Linda Fargo this was my idea when she first tapped me to work with them. 200 pizza boxes later it’s up! What a thrill!”

BLOOMINGDALES
Bloomingdales has decorated its Lexington Avenue windows to celebrate the grand opening of the Whitney Museum at its new location at 99 Gansevoort Street in Tribeca. Displays include architectural photographs by italian photographer Mario Anelli, depicting the Whitney through it's various stages of construction. The New Whitney Museum will feature 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries and 13,000 square feet of outdoor exhibition space.
