Tokyo: Rick Owens Store Opening

The recent renewal of GINZA SIX, a multi-storey luxury shopping centre in Tokyo‘s Ginza district, spawned a number of new boutiques, and interestingly also niche luxury brands set up shop. Paris-based cult designer Rick Owens has had a standalone store in the Japanese capital for many years, but as of late, his avant-garde designs can also be snapped up at GINZA SIX. Perched on the third floor, the store occupies a 105 sqm. (1,130 sq.ft.) unit, and rubs shoulders with the boutiques of Alexander Wang, The Row and Alexander McQueen. The interior design, bearing a Jungle theme and created by the designer himself, is quirky and understated yet fully compatible with Rick Owens‘ forward silhouettes. Pristine white walls and a bare concrete floor form the backdrop of sturdy metal displays and clothing racks, mirrored cabinets, and offering a textural contrast, is Owens’ sculptural double prong bench clad in camel hides. Lighting forms part of symmetric graphics adorning the ceiling and correspond with the seemingly random Nazca Lines-inspired markings on the floor. The new Rick Owens boutique carries men’s and women’s apparel, shoes and accessories of the brand’s main line, in addition to items of the DRKSHDW and RICKOWENSLILIES diffusion lines.
