1504 N. Fremont St., Chicago
Chicago general contractor Summit Design + Build is expanding its presence in Chicago’s Clybourn Corridor. One month after breaking ground on a mixed-use project at 2300 N. Clybourn, the company completed the renovation and updating of a 13,000-square-foot retail building at the corner of West Blackhawk and North Fremont. The project’s architect was OKW Architects. The owner of the property, L3 Capital, was represented by RLE Partners.
The renovation work started with the demolition of the southwest corner and interior vestibule, as well as a portion of the south wall to create extra space. Upgrades included:
- roof replacement
- 11 new openings for storefront windows on the east and south side
- custom aluminum canopies
- new alley entryways and landings
- a demising wall for future retail tenants
The retail center is located at 1504 N. Fremont St. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, an area already known as a shopping and lifestyle destination. It is situated across the street from SoNu DIGS and SoNo East luxury apartments and next to The Shops at Fremont. When L3 Capital acquired the property in 2016, it consisted of a mix of residential and commercial space. Following the makeover, the center will offer space for up to three retail tenants.
