Seeds of change in sustainable wear – Metro News – The Star Online

IN CONJUNCTION with Earth Day 2019, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur collaborated with Biji-biji to bring an exciting pop-up store to Tokyo Street, Level 6.

Marrying the ancient craft of kimono-making with the principles of sustainability, Biji-biji Ethical Fashion is open until tomorrow.

It is an exciting addition to the retail mix at the award-winning Tokyo Street and serves as a platform to promote awareness about the global waste problem through fashion.

At a recent media preview, guests were introduced to ethical fashion by Biji-biji Ethical Fashion co-founder Norashahera Mertens, before joining a hands-on Biji-biji workshop to create their own felt pouch.

Conducted by renowned Malaysian fashion designer and Biji-biji Ethical Fashion collaborator Maatin Shakir, the workshop showcased how creativity and upcycling go hand in hand in creating new life using unwanted materials.

A tour of the pop-up highlighted Biji-biji’s creative collections, including the Classic Seat Belt, Ethical+ Nakakoma Orimono and Ethical+ Maatin Shakir.

Guests then continued to Fuji Sushi, Tokyo Street for lunch, where they found notes containing Earth Day fun facts in their bento boxes.

They also took home metal straw sets, Pyrex glass holders and the Vertical Garden Banner Bag from Biji-biji.

After lunch, they were treated to delicious desserts at the newly opened Marion Crepes.

The Biji-biji Ethical Fashion pop-up is one of several initiatives undertaken by Pavilion KL to celebrate Earth Day on April 22.

The shopping mall’s efforts included observing Earth Hour 2019 on March 30, supporting World Wildlife Fund (WWF) with an awareness-building pop-up space at Level 5 and partnering The Body Shop to give away 1,000 free plants to shoppers on April 20 at the Main Entrance, Level 3.
