Still Movement
With an aging population, the number of individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is rising. There is no cure for this neurological disease, therefore individuals with PD and their families must find ways to feel confident, independent, and comfortable while improving their quality of life. "Still Movement Centre for Parkinson's Rehabilitation and Community" will be tailored to those with Parkinson’s Disease, focusing on their abilities and unique journey. The use of contrast between both forms and colours will be balanced to stimulate wellbeing and ease anxieties. Curvilinear lines and organic forms will encourage movement through the building and be utilized to create a balance, both visually and internally for the users. The centre will have a variety of offerings, all aimed to support those with PD and their families. Mental health specialists are available for counselling sessions for both individuals with PD, along with their family members and caretakers. Neurologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists are available for treatments and rehabilitation. Community is a very important aspect of the centre. There is a large space for socializing and building community, along with a large studio space. The studio is a multi-functional space can be used for group sessions such as exercise classes or group therapy. The space will also be large enough to host community events. This space will allow those with PD to feel a sense of community and support.
