The Blue Home Sanctuary
The Blue Home Sanctuary represents a groundbreaking concept that I pioneered in the realm of retail design, integrating art installations with interior spaces and fostering third places for serendipity and meandering. As a catalyst for Showfields' evolution towards sustainability and artistic innovation, I introduced this visionary approach to the team. Despite facing the challenges of limited budgets and scarce merchandise in the post-pandemic landscape, the design strategy and artistic direction of the Blue Home Sanctuary involved a complete transformation. We utilized exclusively thrifted furnishings that were skillfully refinished in two distinct shades of blue. The space served as an exhibit area, featuring micro-curated, focused narrative stories. These revitalized pieces were meticulously arranged into artistic, abstract, and surreal compositions, evoking various rooms within a domestic setting and inviting visitors to explore and engage with the space. While the design may not have fully lived up to my initial expectations due to these constraints, it still demonstrated the potential for sustainable and imaginative design practices within the company, as well as challenged conventional approaches to retail spaces. The Blue Home Sanctuary not only embraced a more creative and eco-conscious mindset but also fostered opportunities for serendipitous encounters and leisurely exploration. I take pride in the progress made with the Blue Home Sanctuary, recognizing the challenges we overcame, and I am inspired by the possibilities that lie ahead for the team as we continue to innovate and push boundaries.
