Modern Expo – A 1,600 m² Pavilion for Retail Systems and Logistics Solutions

Modern Expo presented a 1,600 m² pavilion, one of the larger exhibition spaces at the Düsseldorf retail trade fair. The installation brought together a broad ecosystem of retail infrastructure solutions, ranging from automated micromarkets to last-mile logistics systems.

Over the five-day event, the pavilion welcomed more than 7,300 visitors. A team of 154 Modern Expo specialists worked on site, presenting technologies and meeting with partners and retail professionals from international markets.

During the exhibition, the company also introduced its first book dedicated to convenience stores.

The publication explores the development of the modern convenience store format and examines how it operates at the intersection of consumer behavior, spatial design, technology, and operational processes. Written for retail operators, investors, developers, suppliers, and professionals working in the convenience sector, the book serves as a guide to the structure and evolution of this retail format.

Visitors can also explore the pavilion through a virtual 3D tour:

The solutions presented address a range of operational areas within modern retail, including:

• Energy-efficient refrigeration systems using CO₂ technology, designed to reduce energy consumption across store networks.
• Self-checkout systems and adaptable checkout zones aimed at managing customer flow and store traffic.
• Modular shelving systems designed to optimise retail floor space and allow rapid reconfiguration for different product categories.
• Retail fixtures with integrated digital signage used for in-store communication and promotions.
• Compact micromarket solutions designed to support autonomous retail formats in small spaces.
• Automated parcel locker ecosystems developed for last-mile logistics networks.
• Point-of-sale display systems used to support product visibility in store environments.
• Intralogistics solutions for warehouses, including storage systems and automation technologies for internal operations.

Beyond the technologies on display, the pavilion also served as a space for industry dialogue. The company hosted presentations, meetings, and round-table discussions within its event area, while also participating in sessions organised by partners and conference programmes at Messe Düsseldorf.

These exchanges brought together retail operators, e-commerce companies, and logistics partners to discuss developments in retail infrastructure and supply chain systems.

Founded in 1997, Modern Expo has delivered more than one million retail projects worldwide, developing store systems and infrastructure solutions for retailers, logistics operators, and commercial environments.
