Madrid: Munich store opening

Founded in 1939, shoemaker Munich has since become a household name in Spain, initially manufacturing only shoes, but the offerings have expanded over the years to various different collections, bags and accessories. The Barcelona-based company values a brick and mortar presence and has become known for its many design-led retail spaces nationwide, each featuring a different yet bold aesthetic. For its latest store on the outskirts of Madrid, Munich has once again collaborated with Studio Animal, a practice based in Barcelona and the Spanish capital. The store is situated at The Style Outlets in Getafe, a suburban area south of the city centre, and occupies a square, 135 sqm. (1,453 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor. The inspiration taken from a circus tent is blatantly obvious, but it’s cleverly tweaked to meet the requirements of a modern retail experience. Geometric and symmetrical, the twelve-sided space is crowned by a pyramid, indeed just like a circus tent, and each side is intended for a specific use. While the spaces that remain within the pyramid’s perimeter offer dedicated sections of Munich‘s collection, two corners at the back of the store however are not. Marked in a bright red hue, it’s here where discounted merchandise can be found. The corners flanking the entrance feature niches presenting bags and accessories. A twelve-sided piece of furniture takes centre stage and showcases the brand’s latest product releases while simultaneously reflecting the pyramid that covers it in multiple ways. Additional furnishings include a sales counter in a similar hue and triangular seating in a contrasting bright yellow. The new Munich store carries the full range of sneakers, bags and accessories.
