Christmas arrives on Milan’s luxury street inside GUCCI’s green windows.
A giant Advent calendar stands like a treasure cabinet, every compartment numbered and every glass door waiting its turn. With a little patience, bags, shoes and jewellery begin to appear.
Behind the cabinet, deep green velvet covers both wall and floor. The colour is familiar. Only months earlier, it wrapped GUCCI’s Autumn/Winter runway as an orchestra urged the models forward and the emotion steadily rose.
When the final note faded, no individual hero came out to claim the applause. The entire GUCCI team stepped forward. Beneath the spectacle, the show had been quietly reorganising the language of the house.
The window is its edited selection.
Clothes retreat. Accessories take the foreground.
ANCORA red—drawn from the lining of a black Jackie—returns on the Horsebit, Bamboo and Diana. Beside them, Giglio brings a playful touch of libertà, perhaps the last sweet left by Sabato De Sarno.
Ballet flats, boots, sunglasses, jewellery and fragrances from The Alchemist’s Garden complete the cabinet, waiting for the next GUCCI girl to open another door.
Not long ago, ANCORA red travelled from Milan to Shanghai and Beijing. Now the green velvet speaks more softly.
In this red-and-green GUCCI world, fashion has hidden one more coincidence:
ancora.
Once again.
ANCORA feels like destiny.
Then, on a sabato, I happened upon a documentary:
Who Is Sabato De Sarno? A GUCCI Story
About talent.
About systems.
About ANCORA.
