Inspired by the vase’s fluid, organic silhouette, custom sculptural pedestals echo the undulating forms that made Aalto’s 1936 design so radical. Each structure was wrapped in iridescent self-adhesive vinyl, creating shifting color and reflections that visually reference the luminous quality of the glass vases on display.
The installation creates a dialogue between product and environment, transforming the Aalto Vase’s unmistakable curves into the architecture of the window itself.
The New York edition carries particular significance at MoMA: the Aalto Vase is part of the Museum’s permanent collection and appeared in its landmark 1938 exhibition Alvar Aalto: Architecture and Furniture.
Ninety years later, an icon of modern design continues to inspire new forms, materials and retail experiences.
