King Stream – Kinetic Mannequins and Pulp-Based Display Materials

As a visual merchandising and retail design manufacturer, King Stream presented a series of developments focused on movement and material in window displays. The work reflects a shift from static presentation toward more responsive and adaptable retail environments.

Two key directions were highlighted:

1. Motorized Kinetic Sports Mannequins: Introducing Movement to Display

King Stream’s motorized sports mannequins bring controlled movement into store windows. Developed for athletic and activewear brands, the figures are designed to replicate sports postures such as running or skiing.

By introducing motion into visual merchandising, the system explores how physical movement can change how products are perceived in a retail setting, offering an alternative to static display formats.

2. 100% Pure Pulp Eco-Mannequins: Material Development and Production Approach

A second focus was the development of mannequins made from 100% pure pulp material. One of the main characteristics of this approach is the removal of traditional steel molds, allowing for more flexible and faster prototyping from 3D design to production.

The material presents technical challenges during the drying phase, particularly shrinkage and warping. Through internal R&D, King Stream has developed methods to stabilize the material. Once processed, finishing techniques such as patching, sanding, and coating follow the same steps used in fiberglass production.

The result is a biodegradable mannequin with comparable surface quality and durability for visual merchandising applications, while reducing material impact.

Integrated Design and Production

Supported by in-house 3D design capabilities, King Stream develops custom display systems that combine form, movement, and material experimentation. The company’s work focuses on how these elements can be applied to retail environments, particularly in fashion and sportswear contexts.
