Diebold Nixdorf’s AI-powered solution Vynamic® Smart Vision I Shrink Reduction, which enables retailers to minimize the most common causes of shrink from the shelf to the staffed and self-service checkouts, now also covers “unstructured” checkout areas. These are checkout areas in free-flow retail environments, often with limited space and smaller shelves and other objects placed in the field of view of the Smart Vision cameras – as found in C-Stores, small corner stores and shops at airports or train stations. In addition, there are often several people standing in front of the checkout at the same time, holding items in their hands. The specially trained Smart Vision system can distinguish between all these people in front of the self-service checkout and assign them to the appropriate transaction. It also recognizes whether the items in the customers’ hands are goods that need to be scanned and paid for, or just their smartphone, wallet, or umbrella.
