Dalebrook – Retail Counter Layout and Department Design Showcase

Dalebrook returned to EuroShop with a stand concept titled The Dalebrook Emporium, designed as a supermarket-style environment to illustrate different approaches to retail counter layout and function.

Rather than presenting individual product displays, the space was organized as a continuous retail journey. Departments such as bakery and butchery were built as full counter setups, reflecting principles outlined in the company’s Retail Counter Design Guide.

Counter Design Approach

The Dalebrook Emporium explored how contemporary supermarket counters can be structured and organized. Each department illustrated how structure, zoning and material choice work together to:

  • Improve navigation and customer flow

  • Elevate fresh food presentation

  • Increase visibility and product positioning

  • Support operational efficiency behind the counter

The installation showed how fixtures, risers, and display elements can be coordinated across departments while maintaining distinct identities within a unified environment.

Visual References and Brand Heritage

The stand incorporated visual references to a 1940s aesthetic, reflecting the company’s founding period in 1945. Architectural cues, artwork, and layout symmetry referenced this historical context while framing the space as a contemporary retail setting.

One installation highlighted an early Dalebrook product, traditional butchery garnish, which remains part of the company’s range today. A consistent teal colour palette was used throughout the stand to visually connect departments and graphic elements.

Retail Counter Design Guide in Practice

The Emporium was developed to translate the concepts from Dalebrook’s Retail Counter Design Guide into a physical environment. The guide walks customers through:

  • Layout and spatial planning

  • Height variation and tiering

  • Material consistency

  • Balancing theatre with practicality

By building these principles into the stand, visitors were able to experience the framework through real counter configurations rather than conceptual diagrams.

Exhibition Context

Throughout EuroShop 2026, the Dalebrook Emporium functioned as a demonstration space for integrated counter environments. The installation allowed visitors to move through different department layouts within a single, cohesive setting.

The concept marked a shift in Dalebrook’s exhibition format, presenting a complete retail counter environment rather than a product-focused display.
