Chengdu: LOOKNOW Store Opening

Boomtown Chengdu also happens to be one of China‘s most fashion-forward cities, and it’s only logical high-end womenswear retailer LOOKNOW wants a piece of the action. The company is on a roll, expanding cross country with new flagship stores, and here, it has opted to open up shop at Jingronghui, one of the city’s leading shopping centres. The store occupies a 600 sqm. (6,458 sq.ft.) unit set across two floors and features an evocative, futuristic interior design by Chinese practice Supercloud Studio. The façade is marked by a giant LED circle which straddles both store levels, signalling the store’s space-inspired theme. The ground floor sees a broken ellipse of partitions in a moon surface-inspired look – mind you, they double as displays in different guises too – sitting directly below an intricate ceiling of vertical slats which fans out from a black metal core which houses a spiral staircase to the upper floor and is clad in mirrors on the inside.

One side of the LOOKNOW store features large mirrors inserted in seemingly broken open sections, while two smaller ones conceal fitting rooms. Additional furnishings comprise glass display tables, sleek chairs crafted from metal and leather, and chunky rock-like displays. One floor up, the aesthetic is similarly futuristic yet more understated. Exiting the staircase’s metal shell, shoppers encounter an elongated metal sales counter with a backdrop of LED screens and an elegant curved canopy. The collections are presented in open metal closets on wheels and a row of cubicles, adorned with LED screens, serve as fitting rooms. Adding warmth to the austere monochrome setting is red clay paint which covers both the ceiling and walls. The new LOOKNOW store stocks a curated range of forward womenswear, and currently includes collections by coveted. brands from home and abroad, including Calvin LuoSunneiLE17 SEPTEMBRENanushkaFinders KeepersAlexa Chung and Lvir.
