Michael Kors Team Answers: What Does Creativity Mean To You? In honor of the 2024 WindowsWear Awards

In celebration the 2024 WindowsWear Awards, we asked 80 diverse creatives to delve into the genesis of their imaginative journeys. Creativity, at its core, is the capacity to conceive original and valuable ideas, transcending established boundaries and thinking out of the box.

What does creativity mean to you?

Challenge and question everything around you. The human experience is not singular and everything we have around us can be viewed, consumed, deconstructed, combined in an infinite number of ways.

What is your first memory of being creative?

I was 7, I ‘borrowed’ my parent’s camera and used an entire roll of film to photograph dioramas I would build out of my Legos and toys all lit by a little desk lamp and patterned bedsheets as backdrops.

How do you approach creativity every day?

Always asking ‘What if?’

Where do you find your creativity?

In everyday questions fueled by curiosity.

What advice would you give to someone looking to cultivate their creativity?

Surround yourself with playful creatives; consume all forms of culture; cook delicious meals; make friends with people outside of your usual social circle; have a notebook with you always and bring it everywhere!

What does creativity mean to you?

To me, creativity is the ability to develop experiences that evoke emotional responses and promote the use of our imagination

What is your first memory of being creative?

My earliest memories of being creative are of learning to create paper mache clay figurines and glaze ceramics with my mom.

How do you approach creativity every day?

It depends on my mood, but my most common approach is observation. You can learn and develop great ideas from just observing ordinary life.

Where do you find your creativity?

Music. If I want to get the creative juices flowing, I find it helpful to listen to upbeat music that makes me want to dance and puts me in a happy mood.

What advice would you give to someone looking to cultivate their creativity?

Stay alert. Observe culture, its shifts, and what the younger generations are doing. Understanding culture and young artists’ minds helps keep your creativity active and your imagination young.
