Connor Matz, Director of Windows, Saks Answers: What Does Creativity Mean To You? In honor of the 2024 WindowsWear Awards

In celebration the 2024 WindowsWear Awards, we asked 80 diverse creatives to delve into the genesis of their imaginative journeys. Creativity, at its core, is the capacity to conceive original and valuable ideas, transcending established boundaries and thinking out of the box.

What does creativity mean to you?

To be creative means to be limitless with one’s own imagination- to relentlessly pursue the impossible and challenge yourself to chase excellence at the highest level.

What is your first memory of being creative?

I remember my father teaching me how to draw, and failing absolutely miserably but becoming enraptured with the process of trying to create a physical impression of something pulled from memory.

How do you approach creativity every day?

Inspiration can be fleeting, and creative engagement can feel different each and every day. Taking the time to recognize your own ability and reset yourself amongst the chaos of the moment is important.

Where do you find your creativity?

I feel at my most creative when I’m spending time with my team, pouring over mood boards or drawings and troubleshooting through obstacles. The best creative solutions most often come from collaborative contributions.

What advice would you give to someone looking to cultivate their creativity?

Lean into what you love. Focus on finding a lane of inspiration that fuels you, and nourish that feeling obsessively.
