Hot on the heels of a store opening in Shenyang, South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster has shifted its focus to the south of China, inaugurating yet another retail space in boomtown Shenzhen. For a change, the company strayed away from its usual directive to lend a unique interior design to each of its stores as the design codes of the aforementioned boutique up north have been duplicated. So, it’s similarly themed New Normal, but obviously adapted to the dimensions of the location. The objective was to create a futuristic world in which Artificial Intelligence has already rooted itself in human life. Situated on the ground floor at The MixC World, one of the city’s upscale shopping malls, the shop has its very own entrance at street level. Upon entering, shoppers see a shepherd’s statue protecting the sheep, an endangered species in the future. Being able to access far more data, this next-gen shepherd is able to nurture the herd with more care than counterparts from past generations. An adjacent installation is also infused with moving elements, and here, it’s a lion’s head in gold and black with a backdrop of fantastical bucolic sceneries on the wall and floor. The merchandise is presented on a semi-circular display and wall-mounted shelving. The new Gentle Monster store carries the full range of eyewear, in addition to the brand’s recently launched collab collection with actor Kris Wu.
